How to Use the Profit Calculator

Enter buying and selling prices, quantity, and expense lines. Net profit, percentages, and break-even price update live — no separate Calculate button.

  1. Enter buying price and selling price per unit (typically per kg in the mandi).
  2. Enter quantity and choose the unit label (kg, unit, or ton).
  3. Add transport (kiraya), labor (mazdoori), shop rent, and any other expenses.
  4. Review net profit, profit % on sales, profit per unit, and break-even selling price in the summary panel.
  5. Download a PDF summary or press Reset to try another lot.

Methodology

Total purchase = buying price × quantity. Total sales = selling price × quantity. Gross profit = total sales − total purchase. Total expenses = transport + labor + rent + other. Net profit = gross profit − total expenses. Profit % on sales = net profit ÷ total sales × 100. Break-even selling price = (total purchase + total expenses) ÷ quantity.

Worked examples

  • Buy Rs 50/kg, sell Rs 70/kg, 100 kg, expenses Rs 500 → gross profit Rs 2,000, net profit Rs 1,500.
  • If selling price is below buying price, the tool warns you — net profit may be negative after expenses.
  • Enter transport from the Transport Cost Calculator’s total kiraya as one expense line.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing per-crate prices with a kg quantity without converting first.
  • Omitting loading/unloading or commission that you already paid.
  • Using ton prices with a kg quantity (or vice versa) without aligning units.

Limitations

Single-lot worksheet only — no multi-line inventory, partial sales, or automatic currency conversion. Wastage in kind must be reflected in your selling price or entered as a cash expense. Not a substitute for formal bookkeeping or tax filing.

FAQ

Is profit % calculated on sales or cost?

The primary profit percentage is net profit divided by total sales × 100 (common wholesale/retail habit). When purchase cost is greater than zero, a secondary profit % on cost is also shown.

What expenses should I include?

Include kiraya (transport), mazdoori/palledari (labor), shop rent, and any other costs such as packing, ice, commission already paid, or wastage cash loss under Other Expenses.

How is net profit calculated?

Net profit = (selling price × quantity) − (buying price × quantity) − total expenses. Gross profit is sales minus purchase only; net profit deducts transport, labor, rent, and other expenses.

What is break-even selling price?

Break-even sell price = (total purchase + total expenses) ÷ quantity. At this per-unit price, net profit is zero after all entered costs.

Does the unit setting change the formula?

The unit (kg, unit, or ton) is a display label for price and quantity. The math is always price × quantity; convert tonnes to kg yourself if you price per kg.

Do I need to press Calculate?

No. Results update live as you edit prices, quantity, and expenses. Use Reset to restore the default example values.

Can I download or share results?

Yes. Use the PDF button in the toolbar to download a text summary of purchase, sales, profit, and break-even figures.

Is this only for Pakistan?

The UI uses Sabzi Mandi terminology and PKR (Rs) by default, but the formulas are universal business math. Currency symbol and code follow site admin settings.

Should I enter commission (arhat) here?

If commission is a percentage of sale value, use the Commission Calculator first, then enter the commission amount as an expense here — or use Other Expenses if it is a fixed fee.

Is this financial or tax advice?

No. It summarizes the numbers you enter for quick mandi trading decisions. It does not compute GST, withholding, or formal accounting entries.
