How to Use the Scan Paper Invoice

Capture or upload a paper invoice, crop and enhance the page, run OCR, review extracted fields, then create a digital invoice in Invoice Generator — all in your browser.

1. On Capture, open the camera, upload from gallery, paste from clipboard, or drag-and-drop an invoice image.
2. On Crop, drag corner handles to fit the page, adjust brightness/contrast or cleanup options, then Enhance & run OCR.
3. Wait on the OCR step while Tesseract extracts text and maps invoice fields.
4. On Review, edit business, customer, tax ID, dates, line items, and totals — watch amber low-confidence fields.
5. Press Create digital invoice to open Invoice Generator with your draft for PDF export and sharing.

Privacy

Images and OCR text are processed on your device. ToolsLibrary does not receive invoice photos or extracted content. Only Tesseract language packs may download from the CDN on first use.

OCR limitations

Handwriting, faint thermal prints, heavy creases, and complex multi-column layouts reduce accuracy. Always verify amounts, tax IDs, and dates. This is assistive capture — not automated bookkeeping or tax filing.

Common mistakes

• Skipping manual review on low-confidence fields.
• Glare or shadow across totals — re-shoot with even lighting.
• Assuming OCR totals match the paper invoice without checking arithmetic.

Does my invoice leave my device?

Scanning, enhancement, and OCR run in your browser. Invoice images and extracted text are not uploaded to ToolsLibrary servers. Tesseract language data may be downloaded from the CDN on first OCR run.

What are the four workflow steps?

Capture (camera, upload, paste, or drag-and-drop) → Crop (adjust corners, enhance) → OCR (Tesseract processing) → Review (edit fields, then Create digital invoice).

How accurate is invoice OCR?

Accuracy depends on photo quality, font, skew, and layout. Low-confidence fields are highlighted in amber — always review totals, tax IDs, and line items before sending to Invoice Generator.

What happens after review?

Create digital invoice sends the edited draft to Invoice Generator via an in-browser handoff so you can finish PDF layout, tax lines, and sharing.

Can I use the camera on desktop?

Yes, where the browser supports getUserMedia and a camera is available. Otherwise upload, paste, or drag-and-drop an invoice photo — those paths always work.

What do confidence percentages mean?

Each extracted field shows an OCR confidence score. Fields below the admin confidence threshold are highlighted so you can correct them before creating the digital invoice.

Can edge detection fail?

Auto-detect is a best-effort heuristic on the captured image. Drag the green corner handles manually, rotate the page, or replace the image if the crop is wrong.

Does this work for receipts or other documents?

This flow targets invoices and hands off to Invoice Generator. The shared document-scanner module supports other document kinds (receipts, IDs, cards) in related tools.

Why is OCR slow the first time?

Tesseract language models load into the browser on first use. Later scans on the same device are typically faster once assets are cached.

Are scanned invoices stored on ToolsLibrary?

No server storage. Draft data passes locally to Invoice Generator in your session. Clear browser data to remove cached OCR assets or local drafts.
