Methodology

• Calendar difference uses local calendar fields (years, months, days) after normalizing to start-of-day.
• Working days exclude Saturday and Sunday; public holidays are not subtracted.
• Leap years: divisible by 4, except centuries unless divisible by 400.
• Week number follows an ISO-style week-of-year algorithm on the selected date.

Worked examples

• 2024-02-28 to 2024-03-01 → 2 calendar days (includes leap day 29 Feb 2024).
• 2024-01-01 + 7 days → 2024-01-08.
• Mon 2024-01-01 to Fri 2024-01-05 → 5 working days, 0 weekend days.
• 2024-06-15 → leap year No; week number and day-of-year shown for that date.

Common mistakes

• Expecting public holidays to be excluded from working days.
• Using add-days when a contract means calendar months (use add-months instead).
• Leaving End Date empty for range operations that require two dates.
• Mixing timezone assumptions — dates are treated as local calendar dates without time zones.

FAQ

How are working days counted?

Working days include Monday through Friday only. Saturdays and Sundays count as weekend days. Public holidays and regional calendars are not excluded in this version.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes. Leap-year detection follows the Gregorian rule (divisible by 4, except centuries unless divisible by 400). February 29 is supported, and add/subtract operations respect calendar month lengths.

What operations does the Date Calculator support?

How is the days-between result calculated?

The tool measures the absolute calendar span between start and end dates at local midnight, then breaks it into years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. It also counts working and weekend days across the inclusive date range.

What is week number on this page?

Week number uses an ISO-style week-of-year calculation based on the selected date. It helps with project planning and payroll weeks; it is not a substitute for locale-specific week-start rules used in every country.

Can I swap start and end dates?

Yes. Use Swap to exchange the start and end date fields. Days-between and working-day counts use the absolute span, so the numeric result stays the same when only the order changes.

Why might add-months differ from adding 30 days?

Adding months follows calendar months (for example 31 Jan + 1 month → 28 or 29 Feb in a leap year). Adding days counts fixed 24-hour day steps. Choose the operation that matches your contract or deadline rule.

Are my dates uploaded to a server?

No. Date parsing and all calendar math run in your browser. Start dates, end dates, and results are not uploaded to ToolsLibrary servers for this calculator.

Does this replace legal or contractual date advice?

No. Results are informational calendar math only. Contract notice periods, court deadlines, and holiday-adjusted business days may follow rules this tool does not model.
