Enter an amount and rate, choose whether tax is added on top (exclusive) or extracted from a tax-included total (inclusive), and see net amount, tax amount, and gross total. Country presets (Pakistan, India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, UK, EU typical, and custom) fill default rates — always verify current statutory rates before invoicing. Favorite rates save in your browser. Planning and invoice math only — not tax filing advice.
How to Use the GST / VAT Calculator
Pick a country preset or custom rate, enter the amount, choose exclusive or inclusive mode, then calculate to see net amount, tax, and total.
- Select Country preset (optional) — default rate fills automatically; you can override.
- Enter Amount (pre-tax in exclusive mode, tax-included total in inclusive mode).
- Enter or confirm GST / VAT %.
- Choose exclusive (add tax on top) or inclusive (extract tax from total).
- Press Calculate and review net amount, tax amount, and total amount.
- Star a rate to add it to favorites stored in your browser.
Exclusive vs inclusive
- Exclusive — amount is before tax; tax is added: total = amount + (amount × rate ÷ 100).
- Inclusive — amount includes tax: net = amount ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), tax = amount − net.
- At 0% rate, inclusive and exclusive totals match the amount entered.
Worked examples
- Exclusive: 1,000 at 18% → tax 180, total 1,180, net 1,000.
- Inclusive: 1,180 at 18% → net 1,000, tax 180, total 1,180.
- UAE preset 5% exclusive on 200 → tax 10, total 210.
Common mistakes
- Using inclusive math on a pre-tax invoice line (switch to exclusive).
- Assuming preset rates are always current — verify before filing.
- Applying one blended rate to mixed-rate baskets.
- Confusing GST/VAT with income tax or withholding tax.
Limitations
Single amount and single rate per calculation. No multi-line invoices, reverse charge, or jurisdiction-specific exemptions. Presets are illustrative defaults — not tax advice.
Privacy
Amounts and results stay in your browser. Favorite rates use local storage only; nothing is uploaded to ToolsLibrary servers.
FAQ
What is exclusive vs inclusive?
Exclusive mode: the amount you enter is before tax; tax is added on top to get the total. Inclusive mode: the amount you enter already includes tax; the tool extracts the net (pre-tax) portion and the tax component.
What are the GST/VAT formulas?
Exclusive: tax = amount × rate ÷ 100, total = amount + tax. Inclusive: net = amount ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), tax = amount − net, total = amount entered.
Do country presets set the tax rate automatically?
Yes. Selecting a country preset fills a default rate (for example 18% generic, 20% UK VAT, 5% UAE VAT). You can edit the rate field — presets are starting points, not guaranteed current law.
Will country rates come from Admin?
The engine uses a provider interface so Admin Panel or API can supply country-specific percentages later. Until then, static presets and your manual rate entry apply.
Can I save favorite rates?
Yes. Star the current rate to store up to eight favorites in your browser local storage for quick reuse.
What do net amount and total amount mean?
Net amount is the pre-tax value. Total amount is tax-inclusive gross. In exclusive mode you enter net; in inclusive mode you enter total and the tool derives net and tax.
Does this handle zero-rated or exempt supplies?
Enter 0% rate for zero-rated math. Exempt categories, reverse charge, and multi-line invoices are outside this single-amount calculator.
Are my amounts uploaded?
No. Amount, rate, and results are calculated in your browser. Favorite rates use local storage only — not ToolsLibrary servers.
Is this tax filing advice?
No. Use for quick GST/VAT arithmetic and invoice checks. Confirm rates, registration rules, and returns with your tax authority or advisor.
