How to Use the PDF Merge

Upload two or more PDFs, drag them into the desired order, merge, then download a single combined PDF — all in your browser.

  1. Drag and drop PDF files or use the file picker (multiple selection allowed).
  2. Review the merge-order list — drag the grip handle to reorder files.
  3. Remove unwanted files with the trash icon; page counts appear when readable.
  4. Click Merge PDFs and wait for the progress bar to finish.
  5. Download merged.pdf from the success action.
  6. Use Reset to clear files and prepare another merge.

Merge order

The tool concatenates entire PDFs in list order. File 1 pages come first, then file 2, and so on. Renumbering or inserting single pages requires a PDF editor.

Browser limits

  • Respect Admin max upload size and max file count.
  • Large scans may exhaust mobile browser memory — prefer desktop for big batches.
  • Only PDF inputs are accepted — other formats are rejected at upload.

Common mistakes

  • Uploading only one file — at least two are required.
  • Expecting automatic bookmark or form-field deduplication across sources.
  • Merging encrypted PDFs without unlocking them first.

Privacy

PDF bytes stay in browser memory during merge. Nothing is sent to ToolsLibrary servers.

Limitations

Client-side merge only — no cloud OCR, compression, or page-level editing. Output quality depends on source PDFs and available device memory.

FAQ

How many PDFs can I merge?

You need at least two PDFs. Maximum file count and per-file size are set in Admin (defaults often around 20 files and 25 MB each).

Can I reorder files before merging?

Yes. Drag rows in the merge-order list. Pages from each PDF append in that sequence — whole files move, not individual pages inside a file.

Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?

No. Merge runs entirely in your browser using in-memory file bytes.

Can I reorder pages inside one PDF?

Not in this tool — you reorder whole PDF files. Page-level split/reorder belongs in dedicated PDF edit tools.

Will passwords or encryption be preserved?

Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked before merge. Output is a new standard PDF without the original encryption unless you re-secure it elsewhere.

What happens if merge fails?

Corrupt or non-PDF uploads show an error. Remove the bad file and retry. Very large batches may fail on low-memory mobile browsers.

Does merge change page size or orientation?

Pages are copied as-is from each source PDF. Mixed page sizes may appear in one output — normalize with a PDF editor if you need uniform layout.

What filename is downloaded?

The default download name is merged.pdf. Use Reset to clear the list and start a new batch.
