Build a browser jigsaw from a built-in scene or your own image. Choose 12, 24, 48, 96, or 200 pieces, optionally add 90-degree rotations, drag pieces into place, and use the timer, progress counter, preview, hint, shuffle, and fullscreen controls.

How to Use the Jigsaw Puzzle

Choose an image and piece count, then move every scattered piece to its matching position. The puzzle records elapsed time and the number and percentage of pieces placed.

  1. Select a built-in image or choose Upload image to use a picture from your device.
  2. Choose 12, 24, 48, 96, or 200 pieces. Changing the count starts that image again; enabling Rotate pieces also starts a new rotated puzzle.
  3. With a mouse, pen, or touch screen, press a piece, drag it near its matching slot, and release. Correct pieces snap and lock in place.
  4. If rotations are enabled, select a loose piece and use Rotate or the R key until it has the correct orientation.
  5. Use Preview to inspect the source image, Hint to place one piece, Shuffle to scatter pieces, or Full screen for a larger board.
  6. Finish when every piece is locked; use Play again or Restart to rebuild the same image and settings.

Solving strategies

  • Start with pieces that contain distinctive colors, edges, or landmarks, then fill areas with repeated texture.
  • Use Preview briefly to compare positions without leaving it open for the whole solve.
  • On rotated puzzles, correct orientation before fine positioning because a turned piece cannot snap.

Common mistakes

  • Changing the image, piece count, or rotation setting immediately starts a new puzzle and replaces current progress.
  • Hint places a piece rather than merely outlining its destination, so use it only when you want direct help.
  • The R shortcut rotates only the currently selected unplaced piece and only when Rotate pieces is enabled.

Storage, privacy, and limits

Uploaded images are processed locally into a JPEG data URL with a maximum 1200-pixel edge and stored with the single autosaved puzzle in IndexedDB. There is no server upload, cloud sync, puzzle export, leaderboard, or multi-puzzle library. Browser storage quotas and private-browsing cleanup can prevent long-term restoration.

FAQ

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. The selected image and puzzle state stay in browser memory and IndexedDB. An uploaded image is resized locally before it is stored; it is not sent to ToolsLibrary servers.

How does snap work?

Drag a piece near its correct grid position and release it. It locks automatically when close enough; if rotation is enabled, the piece must also be upright.

What does Rotate Pieces do?

It starts a new puzzle with pieces randomly rotated in 90-degree steps. Select an unplaced piece, then use Rotate or press R until it is upright before snapping it.

What do Preview, Hint, and Shuffle do?

Preview shows the source image below the board and faintly on the board. Hint places one unfinished piece correctly. Shuffle scatters all unfinished pieces again; after completion it scatters the full puzzle.

How do I complete the puzzle?

Place every piece in its correct slot. The progress counter reaches 100%, the timer stops, and the completion message shows your elapsed time.

Will my jigsaw progress return later?

The current puzzle autosaves in this browser, including its image, pieces, timer, piece count, and rotation setting. Only one current puzzle is retained, and clearing browser storage removes it.
